Blood Tests & Investigations

Investigations such as blood tests, ECGs and 24 hour blood pressure monitors are led by our nursing and healthcare support team.
If you are attending for blood tests which have not been requested by your GP or a consultant, you may be asked to see your GP before the tests can be taken as only routine* tests can be ordered without a consultation.
*Routine Blood tests include the following: Full Blood Count / Renal, Liver, Bone & Thyroid Profile / Cholesterol / HbA1c (Diabetes) / Vitamin B12, Ferritin & Folate / and a PSA (prostate test for men as clinically indicated only).
Once your results have been reviewed by your GP, we aim to communicate results to you within 10 working days. However, in the unlikely event you have not heard from us within one calendar month of having a blood test, please contact the surgery.
We will make contact with you in the following way:
-
BY SMS TEXT: Please make sure we have your correct phone number.
If your blood results are normal, you will receive the following text message:
Your recent blood results were normal, if you have any concerns, please make an appt with your GP. office@athboyfamilypractice.ie NO TEXT REPLY
If your GP needs to discuss your bloods with you, you will receive the following text message and will need to contact the surgery to make an appointment:
Please make an appointment with your GP regarding your recent blood tests.
Online: https://pippo.ie/ OR call 0469430098 NO TEXT REPLY
We will try to avoid bringing you back unnecessarily, but if you receive the above message, it is because your GP has decided that this course of action is best.
We can give you a copy of your results if you require one but only after your GP has reviewed the results and you have been contacted in one of the previously mentioned ways.
If you have been given an appointment to return for a review with the GP and/or the nurse – your results will be discussed with you at that time.
